What is bluesign® approved?

You’ve seen it on tags and read it in online descriptions, but what does it actually mean for a product to be bluesign® approved? We’ll break it down right here.

In their words, it exists to answer the need for sustainable data transparency, increase demand for sustainable product, and encourage brands to reduce the footprint of their textiles. But more literally, it is a set of criteria that a textile can meet and be certified for that says it was manufactured with the lowest possible burden on the environment

In outdoor gear, bluesign® approval is typical used to certify apparel, but can pertain to tents, sleeping bags, backpacks, any item in which fabric is used.

Manufacturers can earn bluesign® approval by following a restricted substances list, and agreeing to supply chain tracing parameters. Combined, these efforts create accountability and prevent chemicals from landing in our wastewaters.

We highly encourage you to shop for gear and apparel that is certified bluesign® approved.
